Description
Here is a supremely preserved and venerable optic from the twenties of the last century. Golden age Carl Zeiss Jena Starmorbi 12+24+42X60 tripod binoculars. The only defect is that the eyecups belonging to the 12x oculars are no longer present. Also, the leather case is no longer present. This latter point is more optimistic than you may imagine as the original owner kept them in a glass case which prevented the accumulation of moisture that occurs when optics are stored long term in leather cases, and which leads to irreversible water and fungal damages internally. As a result, while it cannot be said that the internal optics are free entirely of dust, it can be said that these Starmorbi are by far the best possible specimen you could acquire: and quite clean as a matter of fact. But, for a fee, I, a binocular specialist, can open and clean out every particle of dust. At 42x magnification, as might be expected after 80 years, there WAS a slight double image. NO LONGER!!! (see below in red!) I can also fabricate replacement eyecups and optain a suitable carrying case at the discretion of the winning bidder. Starmorbi were exceedingly expensive top of the Zeiss range binocular telescopes of their era. They cost $2000 which was the more than a luxury automobile. The level of optical workmanship is absolutely without peer in the world of modern optics. It is so good that, despite numerous technological improvements, the optical quality of these binoculars is not second to the best made today. The sharpness is absolutely crystalline from edge to edge, and the workmanship and durability put to shame anything made after about 1939! *2 weeks money back no questions. See my other auctions for fine binoculars! Les plus meilleurs jumelles des 1920s! Unbedingt erster Zustand. Am besten Zivilistin Fernglas dem 19-Jahrhundert! Note. At the urging of a friend, I have gone and made a minor adjustment to the binoculars. The double image is corrected. All that is wrong now is some slight stickyness of the focus knobs at 24x and 42x magnification which I can correct for the winning bidder at a nominal rate. Therefore, I am speaking to at least one collector with good taste. BUY THEM!
