Obviously, the Exakta VX shown is for illustration only and not included in this lot. The Zeiss item number for this prism viewfinder is 1862 and name is PENTAGON (although not marked). I know, a lot of people misspell Pentacon like that, but this is the proper spelling for it. This is a rare early eye level finder for the Exakta (Kine, II, all pre-Varex and Varex models). It uses the waist level viewfinder to mount on (has a claw at the back which hooks into the eye window of the sport finder and two spring loaded latches to lock unto the front portion, as shown. The prism has a rotating eyepiece bezel which places a magnifier (diopter) in the optical path, which, in conjunction with the flipped up magnifier of the waist level finder (WLF) increases the magnification of the central area patch for critical focusing. You then flip the magnifier out of the way and turn the eyepiece bezel to take the diopter out for framing. Ingenious device and about as common as hen's teeth, especially since I think it was discontinued when the interchangeable finders were introduced with the Varex model. The body seems to be bakelite, painted; in the front, there is a crude paint stamp "GERMANY" and some of the same paint residue shows up at the front. The prism is in good condition (quite usable and besides, it certainly is a conversation piece). Buyer to pay for shipping.
