Takahashi FSQ106ED F5 Astrograph Telescope Now introducing the NEW Takahashi FSQ-106! The last rendition, the FSQ106N, has long been held as one of the finest refractors on the market for film and CCD imaging. Wide field, large image circle, excellent color correction and a flat field were some of the features of the previous FSQ106N. The new Takahashi FSQ telescope makes some significant improvements over its predecessor. The new FSQ telescope has significantly longer backfocus at 178mm to accommodate most CCD systems. Many CCD imagers have additional equipment in the light path such as filter wheels, adaptive optics, temperature control focusers and other accessories that take up precious focus travel. The new version has additional backfocus to accommodate most CCD equipment and even allows the use of binoviewers! The Takahashi FSQ-106ED telescope also sports a new heavy-duty 4" focuser with a built in camera angle adjuster. This focuser will lift up to 5kg, or 11lbs, and includes the popular 10 to 1 microfocuser. Takahashi has redesigned the optical system to a modified four element double ED Petzval system. This F5 optical system is optimized for imaging, yet it is also capable of outstanding visual images. Use the optional F3.6 (wow!) focal reducer for imaging applications and the optional Extender-Q for visual use at F8. Another improvement on the new Takahashi FSQ106ED is the enhanced portability due to a new sliding dew shield. The Takahashi FSQ106ED is now airline portable at only 16.7" long when collapsed! The focuser and the aluminum castings will continue to be made one at a time for consistent, optimal quality. User Reviews Review Date: 10/5/2008 Reviewed By: Luis Gutierrez FSQ 106 ED A very compact and heavy scope, very very sharp, contrastone step down to the TSA 102, APO performance........... almost no color can be seen at 189 X with a 2.8 mm TAK LE on jupiter. First rate optomecanical,Strehl may be above 90. The best multipurpose telescope,Nagler-petzval 101 may be has better color correction but is not airline carry on portable. Review Date: 1/30/2008 Reviewed By: Larry H Great CCD Imaging Platform The Takahashi FSQ106ED is an outstanding telescope for CCD imaging. It has a very large image circle, allowing for flat field imaging with large ccd cameras. It also performs quite well for visual use. It is not the best rated visual instrument, but it is designed for optimum use for imaging, so this is understandable. Yet I was still quite pleased with the views through the eyepiece, so this certainly is a multi-application instrument.
