The housing was custom made by SPL Water Housings specifically for the Sony DCR-HC38. This gear is less than one year old, and was used exclusively for shooting surfing. It can also be used for diving and any other water sports. The housing is made from aluminum alloy, high grade plastic, and glass. It is lightweight and extremely durable. I've used it in high surf conditions, and it has always maintained its integrity. The housing has a detachable pistol grip as well as a built in LCD view finder. You can completely operate the camera from within the housing, using built in levers and dials. These operations include turning the camera on and off, starting and stopping recording, and zooming in and out using the Carl Zeiss 40x optical lens. The camera also comes with a wide angle attachment lens which widens your frame by 70%. The camera includes all original cables as well as the original battery. I am also including an extra 4 hour battery which will keep you in the water as long as necessary. The camera provides crystal clear images using the mini DV format which can be directly viewed on your TV or computer using AV cables or iLink (firewire cable not included). I am also including instructions on how to operate and maintain the housing properly. The retail value of the housing is $1800 not including the video camera and accessories. This equipment is in perfect working condition, as well as excellent cosmetic condition. It shows minor signs of use, but as you can see from the photos it still looks like new.
